burn it down

Burn It Down

So burn it down
this love that cannnot serve us anymore

You got your Ever After by reckless default
be careful what you wish for

Now you're drowning in your sea of trepidation
where the water is not bluer, but green

And you reach out for me to help keep you afloat
as your ship is going down with your dream

My love could not heal your broken soul before
so how could it mend you now?

And burn it down
this love I have inside... but just don't know how

let me go

you felt it, I know you did
your heart sensed me slipping away
letting go
breaking free of this bond
as you moved on with your life

           you panicked, I know you did
           reaching out, then hurting me again by
           your words
           never prepared to let me go
           or able to say goodbye

this bond is eternal, I know it is
cursed never to break free
you can't love
as I have loved you
please just let me go

The Stone

The Stone

I picked up a beautiful
shiny dark stone
as I walked to the pier.
Touching it gently
I thought about you,
remembering the love
we once shared.

But you drank their poison
and no longer recognize
who I am to you
and everything began
to change...

I died a thousand deaths
reaching out to you
thru the flames.
But you could not see me
and were afraid...

These are my demons you said,
mine are worse than most--
I don't know if I could
ever be there for you
as you deserve.

My heart has been under arrest
too long, I thought
as I walked out
to the edge of the pier.

I prayed for this pain to be
released from my soul,
and from a love
that no longer serves...

Dear God, I prayed:
May he always be safe
May he always be loved
May he find what he is seeking
...though it could not be me.

I touched the beautiful
shiny dark stone
to my lips and whispered
"goodbye"

I threw the stone
as far as I could
off the end of the pier
into the cold white waves
and released you
from my heart
...at last.

broken

Broken

when I got home
I fell lifelessly onto my bed
in the stillness of night
crying tears of shock and betrayal
dying from the core of my very being

I am so broken

I lie here sobbing and shivering
beneath these sheets
in the darkness and cold
where love once dwelled
I did everything right

now I am broken

I saw you there
can you possibly know
the pain your deceit has caused
as you left my heart bleeding
in the wake of your indifference

now what do I do with all of this
I have inside?

broken....

Vows forsaken…

I was so mistaken...

It's over.
Smiles you’re faking…

Choices you’re making…

My hands are shaking…

Hearts are breaking…

Hurt and aching…
